Though set up over 50 years ago, the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Centre has stayed not only relevant, but also managed to stay ahead of the pack, as the numerous awards repeatedly won by the BMICH over the years show.

Having consistently won the top award for being South Asia’s leading convention centre, the BMICH repeated the feat this year also as it was crowned as the Gold Award winner in the Leading Convention Center category of the 2022 South Asian Travel Awards (SATA).

According to a press statement issued by BMICH, this award recognises Sri Lanka as the premium Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Expositions (MICE) destination in the South Asian region.

The SATA Awards Ceremony was held at the Adaaran Select Hotel Hudhuran Fushi Resort in the neighbouring Maldives. The press statement goes on to add that this is the 5th consecutive occasion that the BMICH has been presented with the Gold award as the Leading Convention Center in South Asia at the SATA awards and the 7th international award won by BMICH since 2015.

Previously BMICH was recognised for the International Quality Era Award in Geneva in 2016 and in Paris in 2017 and BWIO Platinum award of honour for The Most Outstanding Service Excellence Organization for the Year – 2020.

“We are delighted that SATA has recognised BMICH once again with this prestigious Gold Award as the Leading MICE destination in the South Asian region. Winning this award is not only an honour for BMICH but is an honour for Sri Lanka highlighting our infrastructure and service quality in the Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Expositions (MICE) sector,” says Sunil Dissanayake, Chief Executive, BMICH.

“Our high-performance team keeps performing consistently complimenting the world class infrastructure at BMICH to provide a premium experience for every event irrespective of the size. At BMICH quality is a way of life,” he adds.

The press statement says that SATA, endorsed by multinational associations, recognises the tourism sector in the South Asian region based on their facilities, infrastructure and service quality. The South Asian Travel Awards aims to encourage and raise service standards of the travel & MICE industries in the region.
