With 83.4 million passengers in 2023, Turkish Airlines reports 16 pc annual traffic growth

Turkish Airlines carried 83.4 million passengers in the year 2023, a 16 pc rise over the previous year. The airline also reported 10 pc growth in traffic in December, when it ferried over 6.1 million passengers.

Türkiye’s flag carrier Turkish Airlines has reported healthy growth in numbers for the year 2023. In a press statement, the airline says it recorded a growth of 16.1 pc in its annual passenger traffic that stood at 83.4 million at the end of the year.

The airline adds that the number of international-to-international passengers, those transiting through Turkiye onboard Turkish Airlines flights, carried increased by 27.1 pc to 29.8 million in 2023 from 23.4 million in the same period of 2022.

The airline says its total load factor increased by 1.9 points to 82.6 pc compared to 2022. International load factor was 82.4 pc while domestic load factor was 84.3 pc. Available Seat Kilometres (ASK) increased by 16.4 pc to 234.8 billion from 201.8 billion for 2022. However, the airline has reported a small decrease of 1.2 pc in the total cargo carried during this period, which fell 1.66 million tonnes from 1.68 million tonnes in 2022.

The airline has also announced a 19.4 pc uptick in passenger and cargo traffic results in December in terms of ASKs compared to 2022.

According to the airline, the number of passengers recorded in December were 6.1 million and total load factor realised was 79.8 pc. In terms of December 2023, the number of carried passengers increased by 10.1 pc compared to the same period of 2022 and reached 6.1 million.

Turkish Airlines says its international load factor was 80 pc while domestic load factor stood at 78.5 pc. The number of international-to-international passengers carried increased by 19 pc from 2.2 million in 2022 to 2.6 million in this period.

The statement adds that ASK increased by 19.4 pc to 19.8 billion during December 2023 from 16.6 billion for the same period of 2022. Further, cargo carried during the period increased by 15.8 pc to 159,700 tonnes from 137,900 tonnes in the same period of 2022.
