Riu reports 111 pc rise in revenue to EUR 2.9 billion in 2022

With 49,500 rooms in 96 hotels, Riu is the 4th largest Spanish hotel group and 33rd largest hospitality player in the world

Spanish luxury hotel group Riu Hotels has published its annual report for the year 2022, reporting a growth of 111 pc in its total turnover that rose to EUR 2.9 billion. The company says revenues in 2022 exceeded 2019 figures by 30 pc.

With a hefty growth of 111 pc in its total revenue for the year 2022, that stood at EUR 2.905 billion, Spanish luxury hotel chain says that it also crossed its pre-pandemic peak in revenues by 30 pc.

In a press statement, Riu says that thanks to its customer-focused business strategy, the chain fulfilled its expected opening pace for the year as it opened new hotels in Mexico, the US and Senegal, and managed to refurbish its Madeira in Portugal, Boa Vista Island in Cape Verde and Los Cabos in Mexico.

Riu served 6 million customers in 2022, about 30 pc more than in 2021

Riu says that it has major projects underway to add new urban hotels to its portfolio, with openings for this year in London and next year in Toronto, Chicago and Jamaica.

Riu says that with 49,500 rooms in 96 hotels, it is the 4th largest Spanish hotel group and 33rd largest hospitality player in the world. It served 6 million customers in 2022, about 30 pc more than in 2021.

The company also provided details of its Corporate Social Responsibility activities in the year, saying that it spent over EUR 2.4 million in 71 CSR activities, with almost 40 pc of its spending focused on health, education and sustainability. Riu says its activities benefitted over 42,000 children and it planted 1,000 coral colonies, besides releasing about 115,000 turtle hatchlings.

It says that it remains committed and is working hard to make further advancements on its CSR strategy, maintaining and consolidating partnerships both for social investment and biodiversity protection.
