During his visit to Qatar in May, Tanzanian island Zanzibar’s President, Hussein Mwinyi invited Qatari businessmen and investors to make investments in the Zanzibar Islands, part of Tanzania.

The close relations between Qatar and Zanzibar has achieved significant development in attracting and safeguarding sustainable investments, noted the President. He invited Qatari businessmen to explore Zanzibar’s host of opportunities in infrastructure, real estate, tourism, hospitality, agriculture, industry, and energy, according to a press statement.

Located on warm Indian Ocean beaches with numerous historical and cultural heritage sites, tourism to Zanzibar island has been emerging as a crowd magnet for holidaymakers from the Middle East, says the statement.

Spotting an opportunity to develop a market banking on the unique islands resorts, Mwinyi claimed that the Zanzibar administration was interested in promoting conference and heritage tourism, it adds.

The President also underscored the strategic location of Zanzibar, saying it is accessible to a number of economic blocs including the Southern African Development Community (SADC), the East African Community (EAC), and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AFCFTA), which all offer a huge market for investors.

“We need to establish health tourism, energy, and conference tourism as new areas to invest,” Mwinyi told Qatar investors in Doha.

The accompanying delegation included officials from various economic authorities in Tanzania and Zanzibar, including the Zanzibar Investment Promotion Authority (ZIPA) and Tanzania Investment Centre, says the statement, adding that potential investors, led by the Vice-Chairman of the Qatar Business Council, Mohammed bin Ahmed Al-Kowari, expressed the desire to invest in Zanzibar and Tanzania in general, while admiring the environment and culture of Zanzibar.

While in Doha, Mwinyi met with the Vice Chairman of the Qatar Business Council, Muhammed Bin Ahmed Al-Kuwari, and stakeholders from the private sector of industry, inviting them to invest in Zanzibar where multiple opportunities are available.
