A tropical paradise with a spice-scented aroma and personalised service is what awaits a visitor at The Residence Zanzibar, a luxury hotel. Listed as a Travellers’ Choice on Tripadvisor in 2022, the 66-key resort located just off the coast of Tanzania showcases Zanzibar’s African, Omani, and European heritage through the elegant design of its luxurious villas, says a press statement issued by the hotel.

The press statement adds that the villas feature private swimming pools and gardens, as well as views of the beach or the ocean, with a perfect combination of space and privacy, all framed by the mesmerising Zanzibar sunset. The hotel says that the cherry on top is a pool with glass walls that looks out over the water and that the resort is the ideal setting for relaxing and finding one’s inner self, whether one chooses to stroll along the beach or cycle through gardens.

The statement says that guests can indulge in the archipelago’s cultural heritage with a menu that takes a cue from Indian, Arabic, and Mediterranean flavours with a hint of local spices. This means guests can find paratha, biryani, and korma with a Zanzibar twist served at its restaurants or in the intimacy of a villa. The Dining Room offers spectacular views of the beach and serves international as well as local cuisine peppered with spices that Zanzibar is renowned for.

The statement adds that a little distance from the main hotel, The Pavilion is located among verdant gardens and offers a menu that is best characterised as Middle Eastern meets Mediterranean. Its contemporary décor with touches of Middle Eastern culture and traditional music in the background offers a unique dining experience to guests. One can also relax by the poolside to relish snacks and drinks. The resort organises an intimate dinner for anyone commemorating a milestone. The seclusion of their villa, the terrace, or an evening BBQ on the jetty by the ocean are all options for the guests.

Offering rejuvenating spa sessions in tropical gardens, the spa has six treatment pavilions and a relaxation area with a whirlpool. The signature healing massage works on chakra points, while the beauty treatments use local plants and spices to nurture the body, says the hotel.

It adds that the Zanzibar archipelago has been impacted by several cultures, creating a distinctive multicultural experience. It was formerly a gateway for international traders travelling between Arabia, India, and Africa. One encounters story-like structures while strolling through the bustling Stone Town neighbourhood of Zanzibar City, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, including coral and stone residences with wooden doors carved with Qu’ranic scripts, Indian homes with courtyards and balconies, and white-washed Arabian mansions of former sultans and Persian merchants.

Travellers are enchanted by the scents of clove, nutmeg, cardamom, turmeric, cinnamon, chile, and black pepper while exploring the nearby spice plantation, says Zanzibar’s statement. The Jozani Forest Reserve, which is home to native species of flora and wildlife including the red colobus monkey, is a treat for nature lovers. The resort is about 20 minutes from the village of Kizimkazi, which is well-known for its dolphin excursions, says the statement.

The resort is about 55 minutes from Zanzibar International Airport that is serviced by numerous airlines. Zanzibar experiences warm weather all year round, with average highs of 27°C in the summer, from October to May, and a pleasant 25°C in the cooler months from June to September. The resort is situated to Menai Bay, Zanzibar’s largest marine protected area home to native fish and marine mammals, and is highly prized for its tranquilly. The Residence Zanzibar says it is offering packages for a stay at a luxury villa with a private pool that include Easter lunch, a free meal plan, one 35-minute spa treatment, discounts on food and beverages and spa treatments, and discounts on children’s stays for those who are organising an Easter or Eid break.
