To stimulate tourism recovery from India, Fiji’s official tourism board Tourism Fiji recently conducted its first post Covid-19 Matai agent, or Fiji specialist, familiarisation trip from India. In a press statement, Tourism Fiji says that the launch of such initiatives is dedicated to amplifying its trade initiatives across the country. The trip was a part of an incentive announced last year during the launch of the new Fiji Matai Specialist Programme, Tourism Fiji’s e-learning platform.

Tourism Fiji says that over a period of 7 days, the familiarisation trip allowed the Matai agents to explore the captivating cultural and scenic gems of Fiji. With classic Fijian hospitality, the group shared luxurious Fijian accommodations strategically chosen to provide a comfortable and authentic experience throughout their stay.

“We are thrilled to welcome our Indian Matai agents in Fiji as part of our commitment to support tourism recovery in Fiji. By incentivising trade partners to actively engage and deepen their destination knowledge, we are confident that they will become powerful ambassadors for Fiji, inspiring travellers to discover the wonders of our beautiful islands,” said Kathy Koyamaibole, Regional Director Asia Pacific at Tourism Fiji.

Tourism Fiji aims to empower trade partners with comprehensive destination knowledge and firsthand destination experiences. This enables them to showcase an authentic Fiji to their clientele with utmost confidence and enthusiasm, the board says, adding that, through the trip the travel agents experienced natural wonders that Fiji is renowned for.

The statement adds that the agents witnessed the vibrant marine life as they explored coral reefs through snorkelling excursions. Adventurous activities such as jet boating and zip lining allowed them to embrace the thrilling side of Fiji. The travel agents also delved into the rich Fijian culture, engaging in traditional ceremonies and savouring the authentic flavours of Fijian cuisine.
