2024 marks the first year that the Maldives has been recognised as a Green Destination

Maldives has bagged four wins in the World Travel Awards for Indian Ocean Region, strengthening its claim as a leading tourism destination in the region.

Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), the official tourism board, says that it has won four prestigious awards at the Arabian Travel Market that is currently ongoing in Dubai.

In a press statement, MMPRC says that Maldives has won four awards in different categories for the Indian Ocean Region at the World Travel Awards which were announced in Dubai on Monday.

MMPRC says that the awards bagged by Maldives this year include Indian Ocean’s Leading Destination 2024, Indian Ocean’s Leading Honeymoon Destination 2024, Indian Ocean’s Leading Dive Destination and Indian Ocean’s Leading Green Destination 2024.
MMPRC says that the significance of these awards highlight the Maldives’ standing as a tourist destination and the continued efforts of MMPRC in promoting and developing the nation’s tourism sector.

The tourism board says that since the introduction of the Indian Ocean category in the World Travel Awards in 2003, the Maldives has achieved remarkable success.

It says that the Maldives won the Leading Destination 17 times, Leading Honeymoon Destination six times and Leading Dive Destination nine times.

It adds that 2024 marks the first year that the Maldives has been recognised as a Green Destination, highlighting its sustainable tourism and enhancing its image of the destination as a high profile luxury destination among visitors.
