Members of European Society of Cardiology gather in Amsterdam for the ESC Congress 2023 as Europe’s largest medical conference returns to the Dutch capital after a decade.

Over 23,000 cardiologists and researchers have arrived in Amsterdam as the Dutch capital hosts Europe’s largest medical conference: the European Society of Cardiology (ESC), after a gap of 10 years.

According to a press statement, at the ESC Congress 2023, cardiologists and researchers have joined forces with their colleagues, peers, and cardiology heroes, to protect the heart and create the future of cardiology. The meeting, that began on Friday and will continue until Monday, is taking place at RAI Amsterdam, in the heart of the city renowned for its bicycles and canals.

The ESC Congress is famous as the largest meeting of medical practitioners in Europe and the largest conference covering cardiovascular issues in the world. This year’s spotlight at the ESC Congress will be on heart failure.

The statement adds that many of the problems cardiovascular professionals deal with are either the cause or complications of heart failure, including coronary artery disease, valvular problems, stroke, arrhythmias and sudden death. Heart failure is relevant to all areas of cardiology and beyond, including obesity, diabetes and chronic kidney disease, which is why it makes it such a relevant subject for ESC.

The statement goes on to say that Amsterdam area is an ideal location to host the event and facilitate its many participants. Many world-leading life sciences companies are based here, as well as four world leading research centres. “We are proud to welcome the ESC’s scientists, clinicians, nurses and allied professionals working in all fields of cardiology. These specialists contribute to the knowledge in the Amsterdam Metropole and the Netherlands, overcoming the challenges of the future,” says Dennis Speet, Director Amsterdam Convention Bureau.

At the Congress, leading scientists will give more than 800 scientific sessions, plenary lectures and seminars on the latest research and clinical trials during the ESC Congress 2023. The 3,752 abstracts accepted from 90 countries will cover more than 100 cardiovascular issues.
