Sarova Hotels, one of Kenya’s leading hotel resorts, also known to have hosted some global high profile guests including Queen Elizabeth II among many others is celebrating its 50th anniversary.

In a press statement, the heritage luxury property, looking back on its legacy, says that the vision for this indigenous hotel brand was born in 1974. The name Sarova was coined as an acronym derived from the founding patriarchs’s wives’ first names, it says.

It includes Sa- Swaran Vohra (Mohinder Singh Vohra’s wife), Ro- Rose Kariuki (John Ngata Kariuki’s wife) and Va- Varsha Vohra (GS Vohra’s wife). Soon after, their first venture in the hotel industry began with the acquisition of the Ambassadeur Hotel on Moi Avenue, owned by the family until 1998.

The statement adds that Sarova has now expanded its footprint across Kenya with a portfolio of 5 owned and 4 managed properties, including Sarova Stanley and Sarova Panafric in Nairobi, Sarova Whitesands Beach Resort and Spa in Mombasa, Sarova Woodlands Hotel and Spa and Sarova Lion Hill Game Lodge in Nakuru, Sarova Shaba Game Lodge in Samburu, Sarova Mara Game Camp in Masai Mara, Sarova Imperial Hotel in Kisumu and most recently, Sarova Maiyan in Nanyuki.
