Global hotel occupancy rises to 72.1 pc & ADR to USD 150

STR says that the top 10 countries, based on total supply, saw strong growth, too, with occupancy up 6.4 percentage points YoY to 74.3 pc

For the week ending September 23, the United Kingdom leads as global hospitality industry shows all-round growth as occupancy rises to 72.1 pc and Average Daily Rate jumps to USD 150.

Despite the end of summer vacations, also the peak travel season, the hospitality industry has shown a robust growth as global occupancy rises 1.2 percentage points to 72.1 pc, leading a year-on-year growth of 4.6 pc, says global hospitality industry tracker STR.

In its weekly update, covering the period September 17-23, STR says that the Average Daily Room Rate grew strongly by 11.8 pc to USD 150. Meanwhile, Revenue Per Available Room (RevPAR) growth remained robust, up 19.3 pc YoY to USD 108.

STR says that the top 10 countries, based on total supply, saw strong growth, too, with occupancy up 6.4 percentage points YoY to 74.3 pc, which was the sixth highest level since March 2020. ADR increased 8.6 pc YoY to USD 144 resulting in RevPAR growth of 18.8 pc to USD 207, which was USD 6 lower than the US RevPAR level.

It adds that within the top 10 countries, the United Kingdom posted the highest occupancy at 84.5 pc (up 3.5 pc YoY), followed by Spain, which grew 2.5 pc ppts YoY to 83.9 pc. France saw a marginal decline in occupancy of 0.8 pc to 76.6 pc. The country is currently in the “pool” match stages of the Rugby World Cup with the semifinals and finals at the middle/end of October. Italy also saw a small 0.6 pc decline, though it has the third highest occupancy among the top 10 countries at 83.1 pc. Based on results from 2019 and 2022, and the Ryder Cup being held outside of Rome, Italy’s occupancy should be the highest of the year for the coming week of data before tapering off over the next several weeks. Japan continued to see the highest RevPAR growth among the largest countries, up 59.8 pc to USD 128 due largely to ADR growth, that has grown by 44.4 pc to USD 170.

Outside of the top 10 countries, Curaçao had the highest occupancy in the Americas, with 77.4 pc. It adds that Fiji led Asia Pacific with 83.6 occupancy and Serbia led Europe and also had the highest occupancy of any nation globally of 91.5 pc. In Middle East and Africa, Mauritius had the highest occupancy of 83.4 pc.
