NYC Tourism mounts content collaboration with Sony Pictures for Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire

New York City Tourism + Conventions, the destination’s official destination marketing organisation and convention and visitors’ bureau, has entered into a content collaboration with Sony Pictures’ upcoming film Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire with the objective to create visibility about the many locations in NYC featured in the film.

To leverage the visibility of its various boroughs that have been featured in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, New York City Tourism + Conventions has entered into a content collaboration with Sony Pictures, the producer of the film.

According to a press statement issued by the tourism promotion organisation, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, that hits theatres on March 22, features five NYC boroughs.

According to the statement, the promotional partnership features a content hub to expand on the iconic film franchise. It serves as the starting point for New Yorkers and visitors alike to explore the many locations across the five boroughs that serve as the setting for the movie and bring its characters to life.

The statement adds that Ghostbusters x NYC content hub invites fans to discover and reconnect with the many locations featured in the film and Ghostbusters-themed activities across the City, including: Ghostbusters Guide to NYC, featuring the real-life locations behind the film series’ most memorable scenes, including the New York Public Library, Columbia University and Ladder Company 8.

“The original Ghostbusters is one of the most iconic New York City films of all time, and we are excited to collaborate with Sony Pictures Entertainment for the next adventure with Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. Through our Ghostbusters x NYC content hub, New York City comes to life as a main character in the beloved series, inviting fans new and old to explore the locations, themes and tours rooted in nostalgia for this legendary franchise,” says Fred Dixon, President and CEO of New York City Tourism + Conventions.

The DMO says that exploration of the iconic Ghostbusters Headquarters, Ladder Company 8, located in Tribeca, will feature interviews with the heroes of the FDNY who staff the firehouse. The ‘On Location Tours’ Ghostbusters Tour’ will feature a private two-hour experience featuring location sites from throughout the franchise.

The board adds that its ‘Slimer’s Favorite Eats’ highlights the many restaurants serving the signature green ghost’s favourite pizza, hot dogs and other foods while ‘A Haunted NYC collection’ helps fans find haunted spots across the five “boo-roughs.”

The statement adds that for two weeks leading up to the release of Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire on March 22, Sony Pictures has decked out Ghostbusters HQ, or Ladder Company 8, the real Tribeca firehouse, to appear frozen as it does in the forthcoming film. On March 14, the FDNY hosted a day-long event at Ladder Company 8 to commemorate the firehouse’s appearances in the film franchise, including ECTO-1 on-site.

The Ghostbusters x New York City partnership promotion also includes media running on Taxi TV, LinkNYC screens, bus shelters, online ads and social media content, the board says.

It adds that New York City’s economic recovery continued in 2023 with approximately 62 million travellers arriving in New York City, generating USD 74 billion in economic impact across the five boroughs. An estimated 64 million travellers will visit New York City by the end of 2024, it says.
