To mark the 10th anniversary of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, fans of The Hobbit Trilogy and The Lord of the Rings movies can head to New Zealand for a once-in-a-lifetime experience as they would be transported to Middle-earth to experience magic at the original Hobbiton Movie Set.

According to a press statement, those desiring to immerse themselves into the enchanted world of Middle-earth will find all their dreams come true in Aotearoa New Zealand, the home of the iconic The Hobbit Trilogy.

“It is a well-known fact that Hobbits enjoy the simple things in life and love to have a good time. So why not spend a weekend channeling your inner Hobbit while basking in nature and exploring the wonderful Waikato,’’ says the statement.

A wholesome visit experience has been built around the movie theme by New Zealand Tourism, with stay, food and places to visit weaved into one.

Stay at the Hobbiton Movie Set

Visitors can fullfill all their dreams of entering the world of Hobbition by booking an exclusive overnight stay at the original Hobbiton Movie Set. Hobbiton Co-Founder Russell Alexander is inviting guests to his family’s property to live like Bilbo Baggins and retreat to The Shire, as featured in the famed The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit film Trilogy. “Hobbits, elves, wizards and others may request to book one of three overnight stays on December 14 from 10:00 at airbnb.com/hobbiton. Stays will take place between March 2 – 4, March 9 – 11, and March 16 – 18, 2023, says the statement.

It adds that visitors can join the Second Breakfast Tour and start their day with a fully guided tour of the Hobbiton Movie Set and a visit to The Green Dragon Inn, where they will be served a complimentary beverage from the exclusive Hobbit Southfarthing range. This is followed by the legendary second breakfast spread in The Millhouse.

Fans are asked to save some space for the largest meal yet – dinner. The Summer Harvest Celebration at Te Pa Tū starts with the Haka Pōwhiri followed by a four-hour long feast of knowledge as well as seasonal kai (food). Visitors can join a celebration of the abundant seasonal harvest and explore rituals, concepts and stories that have deep roots in Māori culture.
