Ever since its launch three years ago, ITA Airways, the new avatar of former Italian flag carrier Alitalia, has been busy signing up codeshare agreements with different carriers around the world to expand its footprint globally.

As part of this ongoing exercise, in the last week itself, the airline has signed agreement with Aeromexico and plans to broaden cooperation with Emirates.

According to a press statement by ITA Airways, from March 10, ITA Airways customers will have access to 28 destinations operated by Aeromexico from Mexico City International Airport, while Aeromexico passengers can connect via Rome Fiumicino to 15 destinations within Italy.

The statement adds that besides the single ticket and through checked baggage benefits, customers will also be able to accrue and redeem points on flights operated by both carriers.

Meanwhile ITA and Emirates have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to expand their existing interline agreement into a full codeshare partnership.

The plans will see Emirates customers gain access to Italian destinations including Florence, Genoa, Palermo and Trieste via Rome, while ITA Airways passengers will be able to connect to Emirates’ extensive route network via Dubai, says the Italian carrier.

The MoU will also seek to extend reciprocal loyalty benefits through both airlines’ frequent flyer programmes “at a later stage”. The two agreements bring ITA Airways’ codeshare network to 36 partners since the carrier was relaunched in 2021.
