IndiGo carried over 104.5 million passengers, or about 7 pc of Indian population

In an annual round up of its growth in 2023, India’s largest airline IndiGo says it reached new peaks in the year carrying over 104 million passengers, aboard over 2,000 flights every day to its ever-rising network.

Low-cost airline, IndiGo, which is also the largest carrier in the country, says it established numerous records for the Indian aviation sector in the year 2023, including number of flights everyday as well as the total number of passengers carried by an Indian carrier.

In a press statement presenting its annual round up, IndiGo says that It carried over 104.5 million passengers, or about 7 pc of Indian population, on board its aircraft. While 90.25 million were domestic passengers, over 14.2 million travelled overseas.

IndiGo says that an overwhelming majority of its passenger were leisure travellers, with 84 million boarding its planes for a leisure trip and over 20 million were corporate travellers.

IndiGo has significantly been ramping up its international network with addition of new destinations at a frenzied pace. The airline says it launched 17 new destinations in the year gone by, including destinations like Tashkent, Baku, Tbilisi in Central Asia and Caucasus countries, Jakarta in Indonesia and Nairobi in Kenya.

IndiGo says its busiest city in India was Delhi, that recorded 73,577 takeoffs in the year, while with 5,469 takeoffs, Dubai had the crown of being its most frequented international airport.
