One of the largest airlines in Africa, Ethiopian Airlines has named a new regional director for the Indian subcontinent who takes over from November 1 as the airline ramps up its capacity worldwide in the post-pandemic period.

Ethiopian Airlines has appointed Bilen Arefaine as the Regional Director of the Indian subcontinent. Arefaine will take charge from November 1 and will be stationed in Mumbai, says the airline.

According to a press statement by the airline, she joined Ethiopian Airlines on December 18, 2000 and served in various positions in Human Resource Management and Marketing & Sales. Her last position was Area Manager Israel from where she has been moved to India, says the airline.

Arefaine has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Management and Public Administration and a Masters Degree in Development Studies.

“Her rich, varied and long-standing experience will be an opportunity towards elevating ET’s operation in the Indian subcontinent. We are delighted to welcome another Woman leader to India and are proud of ET’s commitment to empower women in its future objectives,” says the airline in a statement.

Ethiopian Airlines has witnessed rapid growth, network extension, upgrading level of services rendered to its valued customers, introduction of the New Generation Boeings and use of the state of art technology and programmes that cope with the successive advancements in the airline industry.

Currently, Ethiopian is the largest and fastest growing and the most profitable Airline in Africa, and one of few such airlines in the world. Ethiopian is also Winner of many prestigious awards. The airline says that Arefaine’s appointment in India has come at a very challenging time for the airline, adding that the airline will continue to strive to live up to its motto of being “The New Spirit of Africa” in India with Arefaine at the helm.

Last night, the airline hosted a Partners Appreciation night in Mumbai to introduce Arefaine as Regional Director India Sub Continents to the Indian market and also to bid a fond farewell to the outgoing Regional Director India Tigist Eshetu.
