Aided by revival of global travel and a spike in tourist arrivals in the United Arab Emirates, Abu Dhabi International Airport has reported a growth of 67 pc in passenger traffic. In a press statement, Abu Dhabi Airport Authority says that the first half of 2023 shows ‘healthy figures’ and ‘outstanding growth’ in passenger numbers, flights and cargo movement.

The statement adds that more than 10 million passengers traversed Abu Dhabi International Airport between January 1 and June 30. This marks a significant increase when compared to over 6 million passengers transiting through the airport in the same period last year. The airport also recorded 67,835 flights, an increase of 36 pc compared to 49,919 flights during H1 2022.

“Our passenger traffic figures for the first half of 2023 highlights our extensive efforts to support Abu Dhabi’s increasingly vibrant business, tourism, and aviation sectors. Sustained increases in passenger numbers and flights also highlight Abu Dhabi Airports’ growth plans, in parallel with exemplary operations, technological integrations, and ever-expanding partnership ecosystem. Our aim is to build on this momentum, reinforcing Abu Dhabi International Airport’s position as a preferred airport in the region, with focus on delivering service excellence to our guests every day,” says Frank McCrorie, Chief Operations Officer, Abu Dhabi Airports.

In terms of cargo movement, the statement says that during H1 2023, the airport handled 259,461 tonnes of air freight. Cargo is expected to gain momentum at Abu Dhabi International Airport which, the statement adds, is primed to emerge as a leading air cargo and logistics hub by forging new strategic partnerships.

The statement adds that in April, Abu Dhabi International Airport hosted the inaugural flight of Chinese multinational logistics company SF Express, signalling the launch of regional operations from the capital of the UAE.

This year, Abu Dhabi Airports was recognised with the Airports Council International (ACI) Airport Service Quality (ASQ) award for ‘Best Airport at Arrivals Globally’, which, the statement adds, reflects the airport’s service commitment.
