In a unique promotional move to attract eyeballs in India and overseas and to unravel yet another aspect of the most popular Swiss destinations, Switzerland Tourism has launched a new campaign featuring Olympic Gold medalist Neeraj Chopra.

According to a press statement by Switzerland Tourism, as part of the campaign, Chopra, who was recently appointed ‘Friendship Ambassador’ of the tourism board, promotes his recent adventure-led and adrenalin-pumping trip to Interlaken, Zermatt and Geneva, after his epic win at the Diamond League Championships in Zurich.

The statement adds that Switzerland is an ideal destination for an outdoor vacation is a well-known fact. What not many are aware of is that one can go hiking, biking, engage in mild and extreme adventure activities, and of course, indulge in snow sports, be it beginners or seasoned pros. The new campaign showcases exactly that!

The statement adds that Switzerland offers surprising, unique and high-quality experiences, all seen through the eyes of the sports superstar, Chopra, who had this vacation tailor-made for him keeping in mind his love for sports and adventure. His began his Swiss holiday with a bang at Interlaken, Switzerland’s adventure capital, skydiving over the Swiss alps followed by jet-boating across the turquoise blue waters of Lake Brienz. He then went canyon jumping which is similar to the free fall of a bungee jump, followed by swinging over the Grindelwald glacial gorge.

The tourism board says that thrill seekers can also visit Grindelwald first and partake in any of its several adventure activities like a mountain-cart ride, a scooter-bike ride. One can also fly across a seater-style 800-metre zip line with First Flyer or First Glider that glides through the air at speeds of up to 83km/hr!

A popular mountain excursion among Indians, Jungfraujoch, was also part of Neeraj’s itinerary. The highest railway station in Europe is a snow paradise offering a wealth of exciting activities like snow tubing and snow scooters with views to match, says the statement.

Next on the list was the car-free village of Zermatt, home to one of the world’s most beautiful and recognisable peaks, the Matterhorn. Zermatt is well known both as a summer as well as a winter ski resort. The tourism board says that not only did Neeraj explore the village on foot, but he also went on a rewarding hike to Lake Riffeslee, a perfect photo spot which perfectly mirrors the Matterhorn and on adrenalin-pumping monster bike rides downhill from the Matterhorn glacier paradise.

For close-up views of the Matterhorn, a paragliding experience in Zermatt is a must-do as is a helicopter ride with Air Zermatt over the entire village with unobstructed views of the surrounding Alps. Neeraj’s last stop was Geneva, the second-largest city in Switzerland that perfectly blends its history, culture and nature.

The city is home to the European seat of the UNO and to the Red Cross. Neeraj tried a unique way to explore Geneva, he signed up for a running tour across the city that took him via the old town and St. Peter’s Cathedral to its most iconic fountain, the Jet d’eau!

He then hopped onto an e-tuk-tuk tour to discover other parts of the city and paid homage to the Mahatma Gandhi statue enroute. He finished his Geneva outing with river rafting over the rapids of the Arve on the way to Lake Geneva to prove that fun, adventure activities are not too far from the cities, says the statement.

The tourism board says that Neeraj did all this and more using just one Swiss Travel Pass across the entire country! This single ticket is the key to Switzerland’s efficient public transport network. This allows visitors to explore Switzerland end-to-end seamlessly via trains, buses, boats, cableways and trams. A convenient and comfortable journey in premium panoramic trains is a plus, it adds.
