As Kenya gets ready to host the third World Rally Championship (WRC) Safari Rally from June 22–25, 2023, preparations are in high gear. Weeks after the confirmed entry list for the World Rally Championship Safari Rally, excitement is already building for the legendary gravel event, billed the toughest fixture on the WRC calendar. According to a press statement, this year marks WRC’s 70th anniversary since its first launch in the country and thus a very special edition of the show.

Part of an internationally renowned championship circuit that covers several countries across Europe and Africa, the statement says that the tournament was first held in 2021 after a 19-year hiatus with the event providing a boost to tourism business in the Naivasha and Nakuru region of Kenya.

The seventh round of the 2023 World Rally Championship (WRC) is underway in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, and the resort town of Naivasha. Uhuru Park in Nairobi will serve as the starting point for the event, which has drawn a great field of local as well as international drivers.

It adds that the spectacle includes a lineup of five WRC3 vehicles, 11 WRC2 competitors, and 10 top-tier Rallye 1 vehicles. Along with Elfyn Evans and Takamoto Katsuta, the Japanese star who has previously finished on the podium in Kenya, Kalle Rovanperä, and Sebastien Ogier, the winner of the last two competitions, will also field Toyota GR Yaris cars. Esapekka Lappi, Thierry Neuville, and Dani Sordo will drive a trio of Hyundai Motorsport’s i20 Ns, while Ott Tänak, Pierre-Louis Loubet, and privateer Jourdan Serderidis will operate M-Sport Ford Pumas.
