Former Managing Director of Kenya Investment Authority (KenInvest) June Chepkemei has been appointed the Chief Executive Officer of Kenya Tourism Board.

According to an official notification by the Kenyan Government, Chepkemei has been appointed to replace Acting CEO John Chirchir, who has been in place since November 2022 in the absence of a full-time CEO.

The appointment, made for a period of three years, took effect from March 20 and was confirmed by Kenyan Tourism Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua.

Just over a year ago, Chepkemei had been selected by the then Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria to lead KenInvest, replacing Olivia Rachier.

Before taking charge at KenInvest, Chepkemei had worked as the head of Marketing and Communications at the Konza Technopolis Development Authority (KoTDA).

The statement adds that as a former communications business partner at Safaricom, June previously worked with Kass Media International before joining KoTDA.

The notification says that she has also served as a member of the task force on the Kenya Media Policy Guidelines. It adds that in 2022, Chepkemei successfully led Kenya’s team in a fruitful bid to host the 41st International Association of Science Parks and Areas of Innovation (IASP) world conference slated for 2024. She was also part of the team that was charged with delivering Technology and Innovation Jamhuri in 2022.

Chepkemei was named among the Top 25 Women in Digital 2021 having pioneered the Konza Innovation Ecosystem Initiative that brought together various industry stakeholders to support the commercialization of research, innovation and the development of new solutions and enterprises within Konza Technopolis.

Chepkemei holds a Master’s degree in Communications Studies from Moi University and is also a Chartered Marketer by the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM), UK.
