The President of the Maldives Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Ibrahim Faisal as the Tourism Minister for the tourism-dependent country.
According to reports, Faisal took the oath of office as the Minister of Tourism for the Republic of Maldives at a ceremony held at the President’s Office recently, after the new President of Maldives was sworn into the office.
The statement adds that the new minister, Ibrahim Faisal received his higher education from Westminster International College in Malaysia where he studied business.
The statement adds that Minister Ibrahim Faisal, who embarked on his political journey in 2013, is rooted in his foundation of education and a decade of diverse work experiences. His journey began in 2013, marking a significant chapter in the nation’s political landscape.
His experience in public service began in the police force, followed by a tenure as deputy minister in the Ministry of Youth and Sports from 2013 to 2015. Subsequently, he served as additional secretary at the High Commission of Maldives in Malaysia from 2015 to 2018, adds the statement.
According to reports, under Faisal and Muizzu’s joint leadership, the Maldives government has unveiled an array of ambitious plans to revitalise tourism. The commitment to secure MVR 4 billion in investments, coupled with the development of 35 new tourist resorts, envision a diversified and thriving hospitality landscape.
The statement adds that recognising the economic challenges faced by the nation, the duo pledges to tackle the budget deficit and boost the GDP, showcasing a commitment to financial resilience. Faisal, with his background in business management and strategic planning, is well-positioned to contribute to these pivotal economic objectives.
