In line with governments all over the world and international organisations like the United Nations Environment Assembly and the European Union offering directives for sustainable MICE events, South Korean city of Busan is aggressively working to expand and adopt ESG practises in the MICE sector.

According to a press statement, Green MICE Green Busan is the tagline of a new advertising campaign launched in Busan, in line with what the city’s economy is about. The campaign seeks to promote and build a sustainable MICE environment by incorporating green concepts into all aspects of event planning.

Busan’s green campaign has one clear goal in mind: to revitalise the city as an eco-friendly MICE destination with a strong sense of the future.

In this context, Busan, which has gained popularity in the maritime tourism industries, intends to increase public awareness of marine pollution. With residents and the meetings sector working together, the Green Cinema project is anticipated to pave the path for discussing and pondering on the significance of ‘sustainability’.

Marine environments and animals are being threatened by an increase in floating plastic garbage, the most prevalent form of marine litter. The majority of this material is non-biodegradable. With the production of ‘green mufflers’ as mementos, the campaign advocates for this, the statement adds.

It adds that Wave Union, a fashion brand located in Busan, is in charge of producing the mufflers, and has launched a campaign whose slogan, Make your own waves, promotes sustainable behaviours in the fashion industry. The muffler the company produces is made out of 100 pc recycled polyester obtained from discarded plastic bottles. The production process reduces the amount of waste and energy consumption, while cutting off carbon dioxide emissions.

According to the statement, internet campaigns to spread knowledge on how to foster an atmosphere that benefits both corporate events and people will also be organised. Vote for your favourite idea will promote the initiatives of businesses taking part in the green campaign idea competition. Another web campaign is also being prepared to promote sustainable MICE business practises and citizen activities. The sustainable MICE campaign of Busan will be publicised internationally in addition to domestically.
