GNTO ranks 100 most popular travel destinations in Germany in 2023

GNTB says that the survey was conducted among 25,000 international visitors from 30 countries who chose their personal favourite attractions in Germany

In its 'Top 100 Most Popular Travel Destinations in Germany' 2023 list, German National Tourist Board (GNTO) has ranked Europa-Park, a theme park in Baden-Württemberg, as the most popular destination, followed by Miniatur Wunderland and Phantasialand Brühl.

German National Tourist Board (GNTO) recently published the list of ‘Top 100 Most Popular Travel Destinations in Germany‘ 2023, where Europa Park, a theme park in Baden-Württemberg, was in the top place as the most popular tourist destination in the country this year.

According to the press statement by GNTO, the previous year’s winner Miniatur Wunderland Hamburg, the largest model railway system in the world, secured the second place, followed by Phantasialand Brühl theme park, about 25 km south of Cologne Hauptbahnhof, the main railway station in the north-west German city.

GNTO says that further favourites are Rothenburg ob der Tauber, a northern Bavarian town known for its mediaeval architecture, motorsports complex the Nürburgring, Neuschwanstein Castle, the capital Berlin, the Black Forest National Park, the Hanseatic city of Hamburg and Therme Erding.

‘‘The Top 100 ranking has been providing Germany’s tourist destinations and attractions with a snapshot of their international popularity for ten years. At the same time, our partners in German tourism receive confirmation of their successful international marketing efforts. The active participation in the survey is also a vote of confidence in the appeal of the ‘Travel Destination Germany’ brand in the international competition,” says Petra Hedorfer, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of the German National Tourist Board (GNTB).

GNTB says that the survey was conducted among 25,000 international visitors from 30 countries who chose their personal favourite attractions in Germany. In addition to the overall ranking, the survey results are structured into clusters such as UNESCO World Heritage Sites, cities, urban highlights, natural highlights, leisure & animal parks, museums, national parks, regions, castles and palaces.
