To allow tourists to the United States to be guided by their palate, while exploring the country, tourism representation firm GoUSA has compiled five gourmet destinations for visitors to immerse in the delectable flavours of the United States. From the sweet aromas of roasted peppers lining the streets of Santa Fe to traditional New England fare with a twist in Boston, the culinary delights are sure to make the tastebuds tickle while unlocking the flavours of the United States.

US offers a wide variety of culinary choices

In a press statement, GoUSA suggests visitors to try out the distinct flavours of Santa Fe in New Mexico. They mustn’t miss the sweeter red pepper or the green chilli cheeseburger, a delicacy of New Mexico that has its own trail. The Santa Fe Chocolate Trail, where those with a sweet craving can try ancient Meso-American-style elixirs, rich pozole, that is pork and hominy stew, excellent barbeque and Mexican food trucks in the downtown plaza are some other popular favourites. Arrive in September for the Santa Fe Wine & Chile Fiesta, which celebrates the city’s culinary delicacies.

The statement adds that the Union Oyster House in Boston, the oldest continuously running restaurant in the United States, is the first stop on any culinary tour of New England. Here, foodies may indulge in local specialties like clam chowder, lobster, and fresh oysters. With its star-studded clientele, which has included noted actors like Robin Williams, Meryl Streep, and Al Pacino, the restaurant has a wall of fame and was a favourite of President John F Kennedy. The restaurant’s renowned cold lobster roll or lobster macaroni are popular choices on the menu. Little Italy, Boston’s oldest neighbourhood, is located in the north end and is home to more than 100 eateries, cafes, and bakeries with Italian influences.

Scottsdale is home to a dazzling array of pioneering chefs

GoUSA says that set against the backdrop of Camelback Mountain, Scottsdale is home to a dazzling array of pioneering chefs who have long been leading the culinary charge. It advises visitors not to leave without trying the roasted pork shoulder tacos or the cucumber jalapeno margaritas, and the guacamole is even better because it is cooked tableside. Brussels sprout nachos are one of the most popular offerings on the menu at Diego Pops, which has a more relaxed atmosphere and offers guests a whimsical spin on typical Mexican ingredients.

Southwest Louisiana’s Lake Charles is a must-stop if visitors are taking a road trip across the South, says the representation firm. This city delivers the best gumbo, boudin, and Étouffée, and its culinary landscape is just waiting to be discovered. It celebrates the best of Cajun and Creole tradition and culture. For giant butterfly gulf shrimp and shrimp and crab gumbo, one should head directly to the neighbourhood favourite Steamboat Bill’s on the lake. For a meat feast, head to Famous Foods for their soft pork cracklins and boudin sausages. For those with a sweet craving, Mrs. Johnnie’s Gingerbread House offers a variety of traditional sweet dough pies that are freshly prepared every morning. Purchasing a few extra blackberry pies for the trip is well worthwhile, adds the statement.

The statement adds that Lexington in Kentucky offers a taste of the South with its sweet and savoury scents of traditional Southern cuisine. When it first opened in 2001, Holly Hill Inn ignited a culinary revolution in the Bluegrass region. The restaurant perfectly captures the warmth of Kentucky with food made with ingredients from nearby Kentucky farms and a cuisine that is seasonal in nature. Take a tour of the Bourbon Trail, which passes through 18 of Kentucky’s top distilleries and is located in and around Lexington and Louisville, to experience the rich history and flavour of bourbon as well as a behind-the-scenes peek at its production.
