IndiGo’s CEO Pieter Elbers has been named Chair-elect of the Board of Governors of the International Air Transport Association (IATA). He will take charge in 2024.

At its recently concluded Annual General Meeting in Istanbul in Turkiye, the global airline association, International Air Transport Association (IATA) has named the Chief Executive Officer of India’s largest airline, IndiGo, as its Chair-elect. Pieter Elbers will take charge in 2024, a year when the global aviaton industry expects to propel its growth to newer highs.

In a press statement, IndiGo says that Elbers will take charge from June 2024, succeeding present Chair Yvonne Manzi Makolo, the CEO of Rwandair.

The airline adds that Elbers’ appointment comes at a significant time for the Indian aviation industry, which is experiencing unprecedented growth and development. As the chair-elect of the IATA BoG, Elbers will play a pivotal role in further shaping the global aviation landscape, advocating for the industry’s interests, and driving innovation and sustainability initiatives.

IndiGo says that Pieter Elbers, with his visionary approach and deep industry expertise, has not only propelled IndiGo’s growth in international markets but is also playing a crucial role in the overall advancement of the Indian aviation landscape.

Elbers’ appointment reinforces IndiGo’s position as a driving force in the Indian aviation landscape, while placing India firmly on the global aviation map, it adds in the statement.

IndiGo is amongst the fastest growing low-cost carriers in the world. With its fleet of over 300 aircraft, the airline is operating 1800 daily flights and connecting 78 domestic destinations and 26 international destinations.
