Continuing to expand its network in India, low-cost carrier AirAsia has announced resumption of its flights to Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, becoming the only airline in Malaysia to fly direct to the port city.

According to a press statement by the airline, commencing April 26, AirAsia will operate thrice-weekly flights to the quaint, yet majestic city on the coast of the Bay of Bengal.

The statement adds that to mark the resumption of this brand new route, flights to Visakhapatnam are on sale from now till February 14 with a starting fare of only INR 4,999 from Visakhapatnam to Kuala Lumpur for travel between April 26 and March 19, 2025.

AirAsia says that as one of India’s many unexplored gems, Visakhapatnam, sometimes known as ‘Vizag’, has plenty to offer, from its lush landscapes to its historical landmarks to traditional festivals, there’s much to explore.

In addition to mouth-watering traditional Andhra cuisine, the city is a hotspot for thalassophiles all over the globe, thanks to its many serene beaches dotted along the coastline. Tourists from near and far also often flock to Visakhapatnam to catch a glimpse of its famed attraction ‘Dolphin Hill’, a towering hill that derived its moniker from the shape it resembles and can be seen from almost any part of the city.

“AirAsia is thrilled to continue this celebratory momentum of growing connectivity in one of our biggest international markets,  India, as we continue to make travel more affordable and accessible to all. A direct route to Visakhapatnam is a core part of our expansion plans and we’re delighted that it is taking off at an opportune time for AirAsia, marking our fourth and counting new route to India this year. We look forward to connecting travellers to this majestic city that is immersed in rich culture as well as enchanting natural wonders.  Similarly,  we look forward to flying travellers from the city who are keen to visit Kuala Lumpur which links affordably to other parts of Malaysia, South East Asia and further afield on our vast network,’’ says Bo Lingam, Group CEO of AirAsia Aviation Group.

“This expansion reflects our dedication to providing seamless and inexpensive travel options, linking different people to different cultures. As we progress into 2024 and with hopes for a wonderful year for travel ahead, AirAsia will be looking to further expand our presence in India and allow for more affordable connectivity between our two nations and beyond,” Lingam adds.

AirAsia had recently announced three other new routes to India that will begin operating this year, with Thiruvananthapuram in February, serving as AirAsia’s second route to the state of Kerala following Kochi, Jaipur in April and Ahmedabad in May. In addition, AirAsia and sister airline AirAsia X fly to six cities in south India, namely Chennai, Tiruchirappalli, Kochi, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Kolkata, as well as to two cities in the north, New Delhi and Amritsar.
