French infrastructure firm Vinci has acquired a majority stake in Edinburgh Airport in Scotland. The strategic investment will focus on accelerating decarbonisation of the airport and enhancing customer experience.

Vinci Airports, a subsidiary of French infrastructure giant Vinci, has paid GBP 1.27 billion to pick up a stake of 50.01 pc in Edinburgh Airport.

In a press statement, Edinburgh Airport says it welcomes the new strategic investment partnership, which will see partnership between existing shareholder Global Infrastructure Partners, the incumbent management as well as the Vinci team.

“We are pleased to welcome Vinci Airports to Scotland and recognise that this is a significant vote of confidence in Scotland, and the future of its capital city airport,” says John Elvidge, Chairman, Edinburgh Airport.

“We welcome and look forward to working with VINCI Airports and Global Infrastructure Partners, two of the world’s most respected airport investors and operators. The leadership team, which remains in place, is wholly committed to working with our investors to improve customer service, accelerate our decarbonisation plans and strengthen Scotland’s connectivity with the world, which ultimately drives the country’s international competitiveness and prosperity,’’ says Gordon Dewar, Chief Executive Officer of Edinburgh Airport.

Edinburgh Airport says it supports 28,000 jobs in Scotland and contributes GBP 1.4 billion a year to the Scottish economy. Working with 35 airlines, the airport connects Scotland to 155 destinations in the UK and around the world.
