At ITB Berlin, a leading global tourism trade fair, which began on Tuesday, WTTC and Trip.com Group unveiled Technology Game Changers: Future Trends in Travel & Tourism.

The report highlights groundbreaking innovations set to reshape the industry, offering key insights into emerging trends that will define the future of global travel and tourism.

According to press statement, the report identifies 16 technologies expected to reshape the industry, categorised into digital technologies, financial technologies, future of mobility, and breakthrough innovations.

It adds that AI-driven travel assistance is transforming the industry and 94 pc of industry leaders view AI as critical, with AI-powered assistants like TripGenie seeing a 200 pc increase in usage in 2024.

It says that a survey of 8,000 travellers found that 97 pc prefer a single integrated platform for flights, hotels, activities, and payments.

According to the report, companies are developing super apps to streamline travel bookings and enhance user convenience.

It adds that the sector is advancing sustainability efforts, with Virgin Atlantic operating the first transatlantic flight powered entirely by sustainable aviation fuel.

According to the report, Port Miami is expanding shore power to reduce emissions from cruise ships.

The report also highlights rapid progress in commercial space travel, with growing investment in infrastructure and rising consumer interest. Industry leaders predict space tourism could become more accessible within the decade.

It adds that with 91 pc of travel businesses planning to increase tech investments, the industry is undergoing its most significant transformation since the Internet era.

The report includes insights from Hilton, Qatar Airways, and MSC Cruises, detailing how businesses are integrating these emerging technologies.
