Generating an estimated GBP 200 million in just a week’s time, the World Travel Market (WTM) London, one of the largest and most influential travel trade events globally, is set to bring significant economic impact to London this year.

In a press statement, national tourism agency VisitBritain says that the event, hosted at ExCeL London from November 5 to 7, expects more than 40,000 travel professionals from across the world for its 44th edition.

This year’s WTM London will feature the highest number of exhibitors in the event’s history, marking a 7 pc increase from last year.

The statement adds that over 4,000 exhibitors, including tourism boards, hospitality providers, technology companies, and travel brands, will participate.
Industry analysts estimate that the event will facilitate more than GBP 2.2 billion in business deals over three days.

With data from VisitBritain revealing an average daily spending of GBP 352 per international delegate at UK trade events, the influx of WTM visitors is projected to bring in over GBP 71 million in direct spending.

A recent Deloitte report estimates that each GBP 1,000 spent in the travel sector generates an additional GBP 1,800 in direct tourism value, contributing to WTM London’s anticipated GBP 200 million boost to London’s economy.

Around 82 pc of WTM attendees are international visitors, many of whom will extend their stay in London for multiple days, bringing additional revenue to local accommodation, transportation and entertainment sectors.

The event underscores London’s position as a premier hub for global trade and tourism.
“While the travel trade are busy curating that GBP 2.2 billion worth of travel and tourism deals during World Travel Market, we’re proud that WTM also has such a significant impact on our host city of London,” says Juliette Losardo, Exhibitor Director, WTM London.

“The range of accommodation, world-class dining and wealth of attractions the city has to offer, are a real draw for our attendees, many of whom use WTM London as an opportunity to tag on leisure days and, in doing so, boost spend for the economy,” Losardo adds.
