China Ready is a Continuous Professional Education programme for travel industry focussed on China
World Travel Market (WTM) Africa, in partnership with CBISN, has announced that the inaugural China Ready Workshop has been postponed by a year in view of the feedback received from the tourism industry.
In a press statement, WTM Africa says that the workshop will be now be rescheduled for April 2026 and transformed into a more accessible Continuing Professional Education (CPE) format. It says that as a result, there has been a strategic enhancement of the quality of the workshop. It says that the decision to postpone the workshop has come in direct response to industry feedback, with many exhibitors and tourism professionals expressing interest but unable to leave their stands for the full-day workshop originally scheduled for April 2025.
“We have listened carefully to our stakeholders and recognised an opportunity to make this valuable training more accessible to everyone in the African tourism sector. By restructuring to a modular CPE format, we can significantly reduce costs while allowing professionals to earn recognised credentials without extended time away from their stands or businesses,” says Reanté Naidoo, Buyer & Digital Director: Travel, Tourism & Creative Industries at RX Africa.

The statement adds that the enhanced programme will introduce China Ready in stages at WTM Africa over the next few years. While the essential knowledge module, covering history, culture, and customs, will be launched in 2026, it will be followed by ‘Marketing to China’ in 2027, and ‘Business in China’ in 2028. This phased approach allows professionals to earn CPE credits gradually while attending sessions that fit their schedules, it adds.
According to the statement the new format of the workshop will also come with enhanced accessibility benefits, namely ‘Pay as you learn’. The China Ready Programme is now divided across three years, allowing individual module purchases instead of a single upfront payment. The programme also comes with a flexible scheduling, meaning shorter, focussed sessions that work around exhibition commitments. The other advantage is professional recognition as candidates can earn formal CPE credits with each module to advance career credentials. Finally, the new format offers optimised learning, with focussed, digestible modules improve knowledge retention and practical application.

“The CPE format represents a significant advancement in how we prepare African tourism stakeholders for the Chinese market. By making this training more accessible, we are ensuring more businesses can effectively capture their share of China’s projected 200 million outbound travellers by 2028,” says Marcus Lee, CEO, China Travel Online and programme facilitator.
The statement adds that the registration details for the enhanced 2026 programme will be announced in due course, with preferential booking options for current ticket holders.
