A record 17.4 million foreign tourists visited Morroco in the year 2024, marking a 20 pc growth over the foreign tourist arrivals in the preceding year.

This was announced by Fatim-Zahra Ammor, Minister of Tourism, Morocco on her social media handle. “Thrilled to announce that we have not only met, but exceeded our tourism targets two years ahead of schedule! Morocco has welcomed an unprecedented 17.4 million visitors this year, representing a remarkable 20 pc growth,’’ Ammor posted on her LinkedIn handle.

“This outstanding achievement firmly establishes Morocco as Africa’s premier tourist destination. Our success is a testament to our nation’s rich cultural heritage, world-class hospitality, and the collective efforts of everyone in our tourism sector,’’ she added.

According to Ammor, this milestone reflected the strength of Morocco’s tourism roadmap and positioned the country strongly for even greater achievements ahead. Morocco has seen a consistent growth in overseas tourist arrivals in 2024 as by the end of November 2024, tourist arrivals added up to 15.9 million, reflecting  a 20 pc increase, compared with the same period in 2023.

According to figures released in November by Office Nationale Marocain du Tourisme (ONMT), the Moroccan National Tourism Office, tourism in Morocco has grown strongly in 2024, with 14.6 million visitors in the first 10 months, more than the total in all of 2023, driven by a 22 pc rise, year-on-year, in foreign tourist arrivals.
