Aiming to throw spotlight on Namibia’s potential growth in the tourism sector, United Nations specialised agency UN Tourism has recently launched investment guidelines titled Tourism Doing Business: Investing in Namibia.

In a press statement UN Tourism says that these guidelines aim to present essential insights into Namibia’s tourism landscape, aiming to showcase its cultural heritage, natural attractions, and economic stability.

It adds that Namibia’s tourism sector has witnessed significant growth and offers considerable investment opportunities for international stakeholders. With attractions ranging from the iconic dunes of Sossusvlei to the diverse wildlife of Etosha National Park, the country is emerging as a prime destination for both travellers and investors.

The statement adds that the unveiling of the investment guidelines comes at a significant time, which coincides with the inauguration of President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, who is the country’s 5th President and the first woman to hold the office.

It adds that UN Tourism’s Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili attended the inauguration and delivered a keynote address at the Namibia University of Science and Technology, focussing on harnessing technology to build a more inclusive and resilient tourism sector across Africa.

UN Tourism says that this inauguration also marks the 35th anniversary of Namibia’s independence.

It adds that due to the backing of political leaders and a growing investment ecosystem, Namibia is well-positioned to continue its upward trajectory in the global tourism market.

According to statement, in 2023, Namibia saw an 87.4 pc increase in international visitors compared to 2022, welcoming 863,872 tourists, contributing 6.9 pc of the country’s national GDP.

It also says that the influx of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) has also been substantial, with inflows reaching USD 2.61 billion in 2023, a significant rise from USD 1.06 billion in 2022.

As per press statement, countries like China, South Africa, the United Kingdom and Mauritius are key investors, reflecting diverse and growing interest in Namibia’s tourism potential.
