In a notable move that is also set to benefit winter travel demand, the United Arab Emirates has announced an expansion to the visa exemption rules for Indian nationals visiting the country.
According to a press statement by the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security, as per the updated rule Indian nationals who hold tourist visas to the United Kingdom and the European Union will now be able to get a visa on arrival.
Earlier, this was available only to those holding permanent residence or tourist visas to the United States, as well as those with permanent residence in the United Kingdom and the European Union.
“The visa exemption for Indian nationals with residency in the European Union, the United States and the United Kingdom is now expanded to include holders of tourist visas from these regions,” says the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security in its statement.
“Additionally, the period of stay can be extended after the applicable fees are paid, provided that the visa and passport remain valid for six months,” it adds.
The announcement, made via the news agency UAE BARQ, makes it much easier for Indian nationals who reside outside these countries to visit Dubai and the rest of the UAE.
This announcement is also expected to significantly boost and make easier the upcoming winter travel season for outbound Indian tourists.
“Indian citizens and their family members who hold ordinary passports will be granted visa on arrival at all ports of entry in UAE,” says the statement. The statement said that the Indian nationals will be eligible for visa-on-arrival for 14 days, which can be extended, or 60 days upon paying the prescribed fees.
