Türkiye tourism industry experienced a 6.1 pc increase in foreign tourist arrivals in January, signalling continued growth.

Foreign tourist arrivals to Türkiye surged by 6.1 pc in January, signalling continued growth for the country’s tourism sector. This increase highlights Türkiye’s rising appeal as a global travel destination, with notable contributions from key markets.

According to a press statement, 2.17 million visitors arrived in Türkiye in the month, building on a 4.2 pc rise the previous month.

It adds that the key source countries for this growth include Iran, with a 13.6 pc rise to 240,600 tourists, Bulgaria, up 2.1 pc to 165,800, and Germany, which saw a 5.4 pc increase to 150,600 visitors.

It further adds that there was a decline in tourists from Russia, down 11.6 pc to 203,700, and Georgia, which saw a 4.3 pc drop to 93,100.

The statement adds that in 2024, Türkiye received 52.6 million international tourists, setting a new record and marking a 7 pc year-on-year increase.

It adds that the country’s tourism revenue also reached a historic USD 61.1 billion, reflecting an 18.3 pc growth compared to the previous year.

According to statement, Istanbul maintained its position as Türkiye’s top tourist destination, attracting 18.6 million visitors.

It adds that Antalya, known for its resorts, followed closely with 15.9 million visitors. Other notable regions included Edirne, which saw 4.8 million tourists and Mugla, with 3.7 million.

It further adds that in 2024 Russians were the leading group of tourists, with 6.7 million visits, accounting for 12.8 pc of all foreign visitors. Germans, Britons, Iranians, and Bulgarians rounded out the top five nationalities, with noticeable increases from Iran, at 30.9 pc and Britain at 16.7 pc.
