Türkiye’s status as one of the world’s top five most visited destinations
With a record 62.2 million international visitors in 2024, Türkiye has reinforced its position as a leading global tourism destination, with growth across key markets.
According to a press statement by Türkiye Tourism, the country marked a 9.8 pc year-on-year growth in total number of international visitors which now stands at 20.3 pc above the pre-pandemic levels recorded in 2019.
The statement adds that Türkiye’s tourism revenue reached an all-time high of USD 61.1 billion, reflecting an 8.3 pc increase compared to the previous year. It also notes that the average expenditure per visitor was USD 972, with an average stay of 10.7 days.
The tourism promotion organisation adds that India has emerged as a significant contributor to growth, with a 20.7 pc rise in visitors in the past year. It says that the increase was due to improved air connectivity, enhanced appeal of the destination among wedding planners and unique Turkish experiences.
The press release adds that Türkiye is also witnessing growth in MICE tourism, luxury travel and cultural exploration beyond just leisure tourism. According to UN Tourism, Türkiye’s status as one of the world’s top five most visited destinations in 2023 has been further bolstered by its achievements in 2024.
