Trenitalia to resume Paris-Milan high-speed trains from April 1

After a gap of over 19 months, a high-speed train connection linking two major fashion capitals, Paris and Milan, will resume on April 1 as Trenitalia seeks to strengthen its position in France.

Italian state-owned train operator Trenitalia has announced that it will be resuming the high-speed train connection between Paris and Milan from April 1, after a gap of over 19 months.

In a press statement, Trenitalia says that in August 2023, a landslide in the Maurienne valley led to a suspension of rail traffic between France and Italy. After a 19-month interruption, the Paris-Milan route will resume via the stations of Lyon Part-Dieu, Chambéry, Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne, Modane, Oulx and Turin, it adds.

Trenitalia says that it will begin the Paris-Milan route with two daily round-trip services. It says that departures from Paris are scheduled at 07:30 and 15:20, while trains will depart from Milan at 06:25 and 15:53. It says that the total journey between the two cities would be completed between 6 hours 30 minutes and 7 hours. It says that the price of tickets between Paris and Milan start from EUR 35 and that their sale has already commenced.

Trenitalia says that besides launching Paris-Milan services, it is also boosting its other train services within France. It has announced the launch of a new service from Paris to Marseille from June 15, besides boosting services on its existing lines, offering travellers even more opportunities to travel in style and comfort.

It says it will commence on Paris-Marseille service with four daily round trips and that thanks to this new connection, travelers will be able to reach the Phocaean city and enjoy its dynamism, beaches and exceptional heritage. Departing from Paris-Gare-de-Lyon, Frecciarossa trains, as Trenitalia’s high-speed trains are called, will stop at Lyon Saint-Exupéry, Avignon TGV, and Aix-en-Provence TGV, offering a new, fast and comfortable option for connecting these major cities. Tickets between Paris and Marseille start at EUR 27, it adds.

The Italian rail operator says that keen to boost the regions it crosses, Trenitalia is strengthening its service in the Alps by maintaining its stops in Chambéry and Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne, which have been in service since December 15, 2024 and are now accessible every day. Trenitalia will also launch a sixth daily round trip between Paris and Lyon to meet growing demand on this strategic route, Trenitalia will add a sixth daily round trip between Paris-Gare-de-Lyon and Lyon Part-Dieu starting June 15.

The rail operator is currrently present in five European countries and it operates around 10,000 trains daily and transports more than 1 billion passengers by train and bus each year.
