One of the biggest headache for Indian travellers, men and women alike, is trudging along with their heavy, overloaded bags that often end up taking a lot of pleasure out of travel.

But in a move that is bound to cheer the Indian and other travellers to Switzerland, the national railway company, Swiss Rail, has launched an extensive baggage delivery service across the entire country, and overseas, to allow travellers to only focus on their objective of visiting the country – enjoying the scenic landscapes and indulge in enthralling experiences.

According to Swiss Rail, it can now collect luggage at the travellers’ doorstep and deliver to their address in Switzerland two days later. There are also express delivery options for a surcharge.

For both collection and delivery, travellers can choose one of four possible time windows. Swiss Rail says that the order for baggage pick up must be placed by no later than at 22:00 two days before collection.

The prices as per Swiss Rail are differentiated according to luggage category. For the normal delivery service, there is a flat rate door to door charge of CHF 43 and per piece for luggage is CHF 12. The service also includes bicycles for CHF 20 and e-bikes for CHF 30.

According to Swiss Rail, there are a few surcharges, including a charge of CHF 30 for collection and/or delivery in car-free locations. The express rate surcharge is CHF 30 and additional time window for collection or delivery is CHF 15 per time window. While normal baggage collection timings are from 08:00 to 20:00, for a surcharge of CHF 15, one can select one of three additional time windows for collection, namely 07:00 to 12:00, 12:00 to 18:00 or 18:00 to 23:00. However, for express delivery, the collections are made from 06:00 to 09:00.

Swiss Rail also lists locations where the transport of bicycles, bikes and special bikes is not at all possible or possible only on a limited basis.

For delivery, which takes place on Day 3, Swiss Rail says that these can be booked for between 08:00 and 20:00, while a surcharge of CHF 15, allows selection of one of three additional time windows for delivery, which are same as collection time windows. The express delivery takes place on the same day between 18:00 and 23:00.

Swiss Rail says that baggage can be bags, suitcases, sacks or boxes weighing up to 23 kg a piece. While skiing equipment, including skis, ski boots, poles, snowboards packed in ski or snowboard bags and sledges, also weighing up to 23kg a piece.
