UAE-based hospitality group Time Hotels has launched the Middle East’s first carbon offset accommodation at two of its hotels in Dubai. It’s part of the company’s drive to reduce greenhouse gas emissions for a more sustainable future, which Time Hotels is showcasing at this year’s Arabian Travel Market in World Trade Centre (DWTC) from May 1-4.

As a demonstration of its sustainable efforts, the statement adds, the Time display booth at ATM has been constructed from recycled materials and sprayed using biodegradable paint, a more environmentally friendly option than toxin-based paints that take longer to decompose. The stand is illuminated by LED lights, which uses less energy and has a longer lifespan. Materials were brought to the venue in a single trip to reduce the overall carbon impact of the procedure.

The organisers add that the stand will be reused at future events for the next three years, i.e. for the 2024 and 2025 editions while materials will be stored in a sustainably run warehouse. Any materials that are not able to be reused will be taken to licensed recycling centres so that their journey can continue elsewhere.

“In the past decade, TIME Hotels has successfully implemented a number of market-leading environmental initiatives. We are delighted that sustainability takes the spotlight at ATM 2023 and look forward to sharing the latest news on our environmental practices. We have thought about every detail for our presence at ATM to ensure the sustainable goals and initiatives of Time Hotels are met onsite,“ says the CEO of Time Hotels, Mohamed Awadalla.

The statement adds that visitors to the Time Hotels stand at ATM 2023 can learn about the hydroelectric energy and hydroponic farming initiatives at its properties in Egypt and Morocco.  The version showcased is a scaled example of what has been implemented and will also be used to power elements of the stand during ATM.

It goes on to say that Time Hotels has put in place a number of activities outside of ATM to help the Net Zero campaign. To monitor and eventually lower its carbon footprint, it has installed Electric Vehicle (EV) chargers at two of its Dubai properties, joined the recycle, reforest, repeat initiative with the Emirates Environmental Group (EEG), and implemented a number of environmental policies over the past 12 months, such as tracking the amount of petrol, diesel, and LPG consumed. TIME also met its target of decreasing the use of single-use plastic by 90 pc in 2022 and is on track to reach 100 pc in 2023.
