As football fever reaches its height in Europe this summer, digital travel platform Agoda has identified the top Asian markets searching for holiday accommodations in Germany during the ongoing Euro2024 Football Championship that is currently going in 10 cities across Germany.

According to Agoda’s data, South Korea came out on top, followed by Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan and India.

Agoda says that the football tournament has drawn interest from travellers throughout Asia, from northern Asian markets like South Korea to India further west. This also comes as a positive response to some of German National Tourist Office’s (GNTO) promotional campaigns in these markets.

Earlier this year, the GNTO India had mounted diverse campaigns and offers for Indian tourists to experience Germany’s cultural treasures and natural wonders for the duration of the tournament.

With its Stay a Little Longer campaign, GNTO had urged Indian tourists to go beyond the football stadiums or at countless public viewing parties all over the nation, to also check out world-class museums, historical landmarks, scenic riverside views and the diverse 52 UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

In order to foster a deeper connection with everything Germany has to offer, the GNTO India initiative aimed to enhance the traveller experience by venturing beyond the typical tourist destinations.

Agoda says the final week of the tournament will see matches being played in Munich and Dortmund, finally culminating at the Olympiastadion in Berlin on July 14.

Other host cities are Koln, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Gelsenkirchen, Leipzig, and Stuttgart, each with lively and festive fan zones, attracting football enthusiasts and tourists alike.

“Major European football tournaments have always been a big draw for football fans, and this year is no exception. Asia’s interest in Germany for accommodation during the tournament further proves that, with travellers keen to explore more of what the host cities have to offer beyond just the games. And it’s great to see an uptake in travellers looking to Agoda to provide them with their stay, flight, and experience options,” says Andrew Smith, Senior Vice President, Supply at Agoda.

Agoda’s data highlights that Munich is the most searched destination from Asia, followed closely by Berlin. Hamburg, Dusseldorf, and Cologne also feature prominently, offering a mix of historical landmarks, modern attractions and a lively sports scene.
