South Korea hosts inaugural India-Korea ‘friendship night’ in Chennai

The event was attended by officials of Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, officials of IRCTC, along with the heads of leading travel associations

As a part of celebrating the Independence Day of both nations and strengthening bilateral ties, the Korea Tourism Organisation (KTO) and the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea recently held the 1st India-Korea Friendship Night in Chennai.

The inaugural India-Korea Friendship Night by the Korea Tourism Organisation (KTO) and the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea was held on August 28 in Chennai. 

In a press statement, KTO says that this landmark event celebrated the Independence Day of both nations and marked a significant milestone in the strengthening of cultural and diplomatic ties between India and South Korea.

Cultural performances were also on the agenda 

The event was inaugurated by Palanivel Thiagarajan, IT Minister, Government of Tamil Nadu, followed by the welcome addresses by Chang Nyun-KIM, Consul General of the Korean Consulate in Chennai and Myong Kil Yun, Regional Director, India and SAARC Countries, KTO. 

The statement adds that the event was attended by officials of Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, officials of IRCTC, along with the heads of leading travel associations.

“The India-Korea Friendship Night was a resounding success and a testament to the deepening ties between our two nations. Our collaboration with the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Chennai was pivotal in bringing this event to life, and we are thrilled to have celebrated the shared independence and cultural heritage of both India and Korea,” says Myong Kil Yun.

“The fusion of our culinary traditions, along with the cultural performances, created an unforgettable experience for all attendees. This event has laid a strong foundation for future collaborations, and we are excited to continue strengthening the bond between our countries,” he adds.

The statement adds that the programme began with a musical presentation about friendship in Tamil and Korean, which was followed by an Indo-Korean fashion show directed by InKo Centre Chennai and Sejong Culture Academy from Korea. 

It says that to enlighten attendees about the diverse experiences Korea has to offer, KTO made a presentation on the country’s vibrant culture. 

A lucky draw was conducted with special prizes awarded to the winners. Participants were also treated to a rich culinary experience featuring popular Korean traditional dishes, including the K-drama favourite, Gimbap.
