China’s first domestically-built large cruise ship, Adora Magic City, has completed 84 journeys with over 600,000 voyageurs in the first year of its commercial operation.

According to customs officials of Shanghai, the ship embarked on its maiden voyage on January 1 and gained popularity among tourists, accounting for 40 pc of China’s international cruise market in 2024.

According to the report by the customs officials, over 3,000 passengers boarded the ship when it docked at Shanghai Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal for its last trip of the current year, a six-day New Year trip.

The cruise ship, 323.6 metres long, has a gross tonnage of 135,500 tonnes and can accommodate up to 5,246 passengers in 2,125 guest rooms. With its long industrial chain and a high degree of internationalisation, the cruise industry is often called “the golden industry that floats.” Over 1,000 domestic and foreign manufacturers were involved in building Adora Magic City. The ship features 15 decks and promises an exceptional maritime experience. The vessel can accommodate up to 5,246 guests at full occupancy, supported by a crew of up to 1,292.

The vessel features six speciality restaurants, which include a Cantonese cuisine speciality restaurant called the Shiweixuan, with seating for 34 patrons. The Shujie Hot Pot restaurant features a Sichuan-Cantonese fusion hot pot, complete with a selection of premium seafood, meats, and fresh ingredients.

The Palace restaurant, spanning decks three to four, is the main onboard restaurant with accommodation for up to 1,470 guests. The two decks are connected by a central light sculpture.

Meanwhile, the second large cruise ship to be built in a Chinese shipyard is expected to be delivered by the end of 2026 and will start international journeys from Guangzhou in 2027.
