Travellers are increasingly merging holiday breaks with weekends to maximise their experience
Holi 2025 is driving a surge in travel, as visa-services firm Atlys has reported that 21 pc of festival-related visa applications are from Indians heading abroad, reflecting a rising trend of blending cultural celebrations with international tourism during the long weekend.
In a press statement, Atlys says that the long weekend has contributed to a 27.2 pc increase in family travel compared to last year, with Japan, Thailand, Dubai, and Singapore among the top destinations.

It adds that shorter work and school breaks are encouraging families to use the festival as an opportunity for a brief vacation.
Atlys says that data highlights a broader shift toward festival-linked tourism, with 55 pc of Holi-related travel applications spanning four to seven days.
It adds that travellers are increasingly merging holiday breaks with weekends to maximise their experience.
“Holi’s timing this year has created the perfect scenario for travellers to blend cultural celebration with exploration. We are seeing a fascinating mix, some applicants want to experience the magic of Holi in India’s historic cities, while others are taking the festival’s vibrant spirit abroad. This shift highlights how people are reimagining traditions, merging them with global adventures,” says Mohak Nahta, Founder and CEO, Atlys.
On the inbound travel segment, Atlys says that inbound travel to India for Holi has risen, with 13.2 pc of visa applications for March coming from international visitors, an 18 pc year-on-year increase.
It adds that most inbound travellers are heading to Delhi, with northern destinations like Pushkar attracting significant interest.
