As travel and tourism from India and its neighbouring countries resumes with full vigour after two years of pandemic-related disruptions, there is a pent-up demand in the market and this has created new opportunities for promoting Responsible Tourism.

WTM Responsible Tourism Awards is one of the most prestigious award programmes globally and OTM, India’s leading travel trade show has joined hands in bringing these awards to the Indian subcontinent, in collaboration with the International Centre for Responsible Tourism – ICRT.

‘‘Every year remarkable new responsible businesses and destinations are ‘discovered’ and recognised through the Awards. Entering is an opportunity to showcase the impact you are having and what you have achieved. Being recognised will bring you a business advantage. If you know of businesses and destinations doing good work and taking responsibility, please nominate them and encourage them to apply. The Judges can only select from amongst those that apply. Free to enter, they provide an opportunity to showcase your achievements on a global stage,’’ says Harold Goodwin, WTM Responsible Tourism Advisor.

In a press release, OTM says that nominations are open in 10 categories and that the deadline for submitting applications is July 31, 2022.

“We are excited and feel privileged to partner with WTM Responsible Tourism Awards. The time is ripe to drive this initiative in the Indian subcontinent and there is no better platform than OTM. Fairfest Media, right since its inception in 1989, has always been committed to sustainability and responsibility in tourism. The agenda of promoting Responsible Tourism is important for each and every stakeholder involved in tourism that impacts the livelihoods of so many in the host communities,’’ says Sanjiv Agarwal, Chairman & CEO, Fairfest Media, the organisers of OTM, BLTM and TTF.

The press release says that travel and tourism units in the Indian subcontinent are encouraged to apply and the awards will be announced on September 7, 2022 at Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. The winners will be invited to join a Responsible Tourism Workshop panel discussion at OTM Mumbai 2022, where they will be able to share their stories with a larger audience of those who want to be a part of this movement that has gained even more significance after the pandemic hit the destinations and host communities so hard.

Those winning the WTM Responsible Tourism – Gold Award will be given direct entry to the Global Awards presented at WTM London in November 2022.

OTM Mumbai, to be held from September 13-15 at the Jio World Convention Centre will play a key role in launching and promoting WTM Responsible Tourism Awards in India, in partnership with ICRT India, says the press release.
