The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism of the Sultanate of Oman conducted a roadshow in New Delhi on Tuesday, as part of its multi-city India Roadshow to position Oman as a top-tier destination for Indian travellers seeking luxury, culture and adventure.

In a press statement, the ministry says that its latest roadshow commenced with a strategic press conference in the capital, which will be followed by a promotional tour across key Indian cities, including Mumbai, Chennai and Bengaluru.

The roadshow showcased Oman’s offerings, featuring 18 players from the private sector, including leading luxury hotels and airlines, with whom the Indian travel trade professionals engaged to further trade talks.

The event highlighted a range of luxury accommodations in Oman, ranging from the opulent palaces of Muscat to serene beachfront resorts and boutique desert camps.

The event showcased the newly opened St Regis Muscat. Some properties are known for their regal splendour, while others showcase a minimalist design influenced by traditional Omani architecture, highlighted as must-visit sanctuaries for those seeking the pinnacle of comfort and elegance.

At the roadshow in Delhi, Azzan Al Busaidi, Undersecretary of Tourism, Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, Sultanate of Oman, underscored the importance of the Indian market, noting that India ranks as Oman’s second-largest source market.

In the statement, the Omani ministry says that Indian visitor numbers soared past 625,000 in 2023, a remarkable growth of over 70 pc compared to the previous year. This momentum shows no signs of slowing, with the first five months of 2024 already seeing a 15 pc increase in arrivals, it adds.

The Omani delegation also highlighted that with direct flights from more than 10 Indian cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, and Bengaluru, Oman is more accessible than ever. The short flight duration of under four hours and over 100 weekly flights operated by leading airlines like Oman Air, Salam Air, Vistara, Indigo and Air India Express.

The roadshow highlighted Oman’s sun-kissed beaches, where exclusive resorts offer private stretches of sand and personalised service, as well as its deserts, where visitors can stay in lavish tents under the stars, surrounded by the dunes. The rugged mountains provide a stunning backdrop for luxury eco-lodges that offer both adventure and relaxation, it says.

A key highlight is the newly opened Oman Botanic Garden, which offers an immersive experience into the region’s rich biodiversity. As the largest botanic garden in the Arabian Peninsula, it showcases native flora and provides a serene escape into nature, further enriching Oman’s luxurious offerings.

The statement adds that attendees were also introduced to Oman’s rich cultural heritage, with tours of historic forts and castles and the enchanting Omani village life.

The story of the ‘Land of Frankincense’ showcased Oman‘s deep-rooted history and its significance as a cultural crossroads.

The ministry adds that understanding the culinary preferences of Indian travellers, Oman offers a diverse range of dining options that cater to Indian tastes.

Many luxury hotels and resorts across Oman feature Indian restaurants that serve a variety of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes, ensuring that Indian visitors feel at home, in addition to the flavourful Omani cuisine.

The event highlighted how Oman is a playground for adventure enthusiasts who crave both excitement and luxury.

The roadshow spotlighted activities such as private paragliding sessions, kite surfing on secluded beaches, guided mountain biking trails, and exclusive caving expeditions. Snorkelling in crystal-clear waters and camping in bespoke setups under the stars are just a few of the experiences that Oman offers.

The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism has announced plans to further enhance Oman’s appeal in India through residential workshops, consumer promotions, and luxury brand campaigns.

These initiatives, says the ministry, are designed to elevate Oman’s status as a premier destination and ensure it remains the top choice for Indian travellers seeking a luxurious escape.
