Kenya has registered a growth of almost 32 pc in the international tourist arrivals this year as the number of tourists visiting the country in 2024 rises to 2.5 million, as against 1.9 million visitors that the East African nation received in 2023. This was announced by Kenyan President William Ruto while speaking at a function on Sunday in Uasin Gishu County in western Kenya.
Attributing the growth in tourist arrivals to government strategies aimed at boosting tourism, Ruto said that he had set a target of boosting the total foreign tourist arrivals in the country almost three-fold to 7 million by the year 2027.
According to Kenya Tourism Board, foreign tourists visiting the country in the first half of the year generated a total of KES 142.5 billion (USD 1.1 billion) in revenue, a spike of almost 34 pc from the KES 1.06 billion generated in the same period last year.
In his address, Ruto reiterated his commitment to transforming the country and emphasised his administration’s focus on enhancing Kenya’s global appeal as a top tourist destination while ensuring the benefits of tourism are felt across the nation.
