Jamaica launches ‘Kingston Season of Excitement’ to boost tourism

Jamaica’s efforts in the tourism industry have been recognised internationally with the country being awarded the “Destination of the Year – Romance” at the PATWA International Travel Awards

The ‘Kingston Season of Excitement’, a campaign promoting the city’s cultural and sporting events during spring, has been introduced by the Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB) in a significant initiative. It showcases major activities, including track meets, music events and festivals, inviting visitors to experience Kingston’s diverse entertainment offerings.

In a press statement, Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB) says that the initiative aims to attract international visitors and strengthen Jamaica’s tourism economy.

It adds that the Kingston will host several high-profile events from March to April. The ISSA Boys and Girls Championships, scheduled from March 25 to 29, is one of the world’s premier high school track and field competitions, showcasing Jamaica’s emerging athletic talent and the Grand Slam Track Meet, set for April 4 to 6, will bring together elite athletes for a highly competitive event featuring record-breaking performances.

According to JTB the carnival in Jamaica, taking place from April 21 to 28, will offer a cultural experience with street parades, music, and festivities.

The statement adds that the Edmund Bartlett, Minister of Tourism, was honoured with the title of “Tourism Minister of the Year – Innovation” by Pacific Area Travel Writers Association (PATWA) for his contributions to transforming Jamaica’s tourism landscape through strategic initiatives and policies.

It adds that the Government of Jamaica has committed to invest USD 16 billion in the tourism sector for the 2025-2026 financial year. The funding will focus on key markets, including the United Kingdom, India, Canada, and the United States, to enhance visitor engagement and drive sustained growth in the sector.

It further adds that Expedia and Caribbean Airlines have also partnered with the initiative, providing seamless travel solutions for visitors looking to experience Kingston’s unique atmosphere.

“Kingston is the heart of Jamaican culture. This season afford our guests an unprecedented chance to feel Kingston’s vibe while augmenting our tourism economy that continues to grow,” says Bartlett.

“The Kingston Season of Excitement honours the finest aspects of Jamaican sport and culture. We are excited to be working together with event producers and partners from industry to create an experience of a lifetime for our guests,” Donovan White, Director of Tourism.
