Indian tourist arrivals in New Zealand in November 2024 were at 129 pc compared to the corresponding month in 2019, in the pre-pandemic era and the holiday season arrivals from India to New Zealand stood at 109 pc of the pre-pandemic period.

In a press statement, Tourism New Zealand says that the country remains on top of the bucketlist of Indian travellers. It says that as per a survey of over 14 million people in India who are actively considering a visit to New Zealand, as many as 64 pc put New Zealand at the top of their bucket list.

The statement adds that the Indian market is an important market not just because of the potential for growth, but also because most Indian arrivals take place in the off-peak season in New Zealand, helping the country become an all-year-round destination.

“India is an incredibly important source market for New Zealand tourism and represents a significant opportunity for future international arrivals growth, particularly in the off-peak,” says Angela Blair, General Manager – International, Tourism New Zealand.

The statement adds that 75 pc of people in India who are actively considering visiting New Zealand said they would travel here between March and November, which coincides with the off-peak season in the country and it makes India the third highest consideration of off-peak travel for all of New Zealand’s international markets.

To enhance the Indian market for the country, Tourism New Zealand has already set out dates for the next edition of its annual Indian B2B event, Kiwi Link India, which will take place from July 7-11 in Goa and New Delhi.

“We are looking forward to taking a delegation of representatives from New Zealand’s tourism industry to engage and do business with buyers and travel sellers in India during Kiwi Link India in July this year,” adds Blair.

“To support Tourism New Zealand’s year-round and off-peak strategy we are aiming to grow year-round arrivals from India, with a focus on festive and holiday breaks including Diwali in October and November, and the Indian summer break between April and June,” she says.

“Many holiday visitors from India book through a travel agent so it is important we meet with the travel trade sector in India to grow relationships and ultimately book more holidays to New Zealand. We will also be launching more activity throughout the year to help potential Indian visitors fall in love with New Zealand’s landscapes and people,” says Blair.

According to Tourism New Zealand, Indian holiday visitors are also important for the country as they spend more money while travelling to New Zealand than the average spend by an international tourist.

According to the statement, Indians spend an average of NZD 5,927 (USD 3355) per trip, compared to average spend by all holiday visitors of NZD 5,171, and are most interested in New Zealand’s stunning landscapes, adventure activities, unique cultural experiences and warm and friendly people.
