“Topping the one-million-dollar mark is a tremendous milestone for the Tourism Grant Programme. It is a visible example of how a strong tourism economy, particularly through overnight stays, benefits our entire community,” says Fritz Smith, President and CEO, HVAB.
In a press statement, HVAB says that this record-setting allocation, the largest in the programme’s 23-year history, underscores the region’s commitment to fostering vibrant attractions and memorable travel experiences throughout Happy Valley.
The statement adds that the theme of this year’s announcement, Tourism in Bloom, highlighted the region’s flourishing hospitality sector and the transformative impact of these grants on both visitors and residents.
HVAB says that among the 81 recipients, 11 are first-time applicants, reflecting the programme’s success in encouraging new events and broadening community participation.
“We are thrilled to receive this Tourism Marketing Grant. Thanks to this support, we will be able to reach a wider audience for our bilingual, inclusive celebration of Latinx and Hispanic culture, taking place on September 20 during Hispanic Heritage Month,” says Ady Martinez, Festival Director of Happy Valley Latin Festival.

The statement adds that notable newcomers include the Happy Valley Latin Festival, which celebrates its fifth anniversary and the Bellefonte Historical Railroad Society, which received dual grants to promote its heritage train rides and popular Christmas excursions.
“It is exciting to see total tourism revenue for the Centre County exceed USD 1 billion and the tourism grant pool cross USD 1 million. These grants directly enhance visitor experiences and enrich local life,” says Mark Higgins, Centre County Commissioner Chair.
Additionally, other beneficiaries include the Bellefonte Historical Railroad Society, which received dual grants to market its heritage train rides, especially the Christmas rides that draw significant local participation.
“These funds are vital for attracting visitors from beyond the region,” says Dan Durachko, President of the Society.
