Global flights cancellation declined by 24 pc in April: Cirium

SAS became the new leader in the global category, recording an OTP of 88.32 pc: Cirium

British data and analytics company Cirium has released its On-Time Performance (OTP) review for 2024. According to the report, there was a 24 pc decline in global flight cancellations in April, with improvements observed in Asia-Pacific, North America, and Europe.

Global flight cancellations declined by 24 pc in April, with improvements seen in Asia-Pacific, North America, and Europe and in contrast, Latin America recorded a 12 pc increase in cancellations. These were some of the key findings of On-Time Performance (OTP) review for 2024, released by British data and analytics company Cirium.

In a press statement, Cirium says that SAS became the new leader in the global category, recording an OTP of 88.32 pc. Additionally in Asia-Pacific region, Philippine Airlines took the top position, with four carriers from Australia and New Zealand entering top 10 rankings, while maintaining its presence among the leading carriers, Spirit Airlines led the North American region with an OTP of 83.25 pc.

It adds that in Europe, Iceland Air recorded a 7-point improvement in OTP since March, which placed the airline at the top of the regional ranking. Copa Airlines continued to lead Latin America with an OTP of 94.01 pc, remaining in the top position for a second consecutive month.

As per the press statement, Cirium says that in the Middle East and African region, despite a decrease in OTP, Royal Jordanian held its regional lead for a second month.

According to the press statement, the data and analytics company says that King Khalid International Airport and Tocumen International Airport retained their positions as leaders in the large and medium airport categories, respectively, while El Salvador International Airport became the new leader in the small airport category, recording an OTP of 93.57 pc.
