GNTO says that in 2023, Indian travellers undertook 15.25 million outbound trips, with 2.8 million heading to Europe
As part of the 35th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, on November 9, Germany has organised a series of events and in order to create awareness about these events and to showcase other tourism attractions, the German National Tourist Office (GNTO) India, in collaboration with Visit Berlin, hosted a press event in Mumbai recently.
In a press statement, GNTO says that the evening showcased Germany as a premier travel destination, highlighting Berlin’s cultural and vibrant attractions for Indian travellers. Visitors indulged in traditional German cuisine, sampling local flavours.
Burkhard Kieker(L), Ralf Ostendorf (R) from Visit Berlin were also present on the occasion
GNTO says that key representatives from Visit Berlin, including Burkhard Kieker, CEO, and Ralf Ostendorf, Director Market and Media Relations, presented encouraging statistics that revealed a significant growth in Indian visitors with 59,800 overnight stays in the German capital until July, a growth of 25 pc compared to the same period in 2023.
The statement adds that the evening highlighted Berlin’s upcoming festivals, including the Festival of Lights 2024 from October 4 to 13. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the festival and whose theme this year is ‘Celebrating Freedom’.
According to Visit Berlin, in addition to the celebratory events, city-wide exhibitions, workshops and guided tours, there will be an overwhelming project on November 9 where thousands of posters, signs and banners will be on display along the former course of the Wall.
This presentation has been created by thousands of people who have been exploring the ‘Peaceful Revolution of 1989’ in workshops since June 2024 and will now be displaying their personal statements in a wide variety of forms. The focus is on the great significance of the events of 1989 and 1990 for the values of the German society today.
It adds that the successful event sets the stage for GNTO India’s 4-city roadshow in November
GNTO says that in 2023, Indian travellers undertook 15.25 million outbound trips, with 2.8 million heading to Europe, including 311,000 to Germany which ranked as the third most popular European destination.
The statement adds that tour holidays and city breaks are the top choices for Indian travellers, but Germany’s scenic landscapes also make it a dream destination for Indian honeymoon trips, capturing the magic of Bollywood-inspired love stories.
According to GNTO, overall the country has recorded 440,577 overnight stays from January to June 2024, a significant improvement from 2023.
GNTO says that this upward trend indicates a strong interest in Germany as a travel destination among Indian tourists, and we are excited to see this growth continue.
It adds that the successful event sets the stage for GNTO India’s 4-city roadshow in November, where Visit Berlin will join other German partners to interact with travel agents across India.
