Frankfurt's rich history, vibrant arts scene, and scenic Main river cruises attract leisure travellers
The financial hub of Germany, Frankfurt, has witnessed a significant increase in Indian visitors, contributing substantially to the city’s foreign tourist influx.
In a press statement, the Frankfurt Tourism Board says over 200,000 Indians visit Germany annually and this trend is expected to continue, with a projected 10 pc increase in 2025.
The statement adds that the growth in Indian tourism to Frankfurt can be attributed to several factors, including improved air connectivity, burgeoning business relations, and a deeper appreciation for the city’s cultural offerings.
The board adds that Frankfurt Airport handles over 70 direct flights from India weekly, with major carriers like Lufthansa and Air India, and that the Frankfurt-Delhi and Frankfurt-Mumbai routes have seen a 15 pc annual increase in demand.
It says that Frankfurt’s rich history, vibrant arts scene, and scenic Main river cruises attract leisure travellers, while its robust business infrastructure draws corporate visitors and MICE delegates.
According to the press statement, in 2024, Frankfurt’s tourism sector experienced remarkable growth, with the number of Indian visitors rising from 32,082 in 2023 to 42,061 and the city received a strong influx of corporate travellers in October and November, while December traditionally sees a surge in tourist arrivals.
The tourism board adds that Frankfurt posted an 8.2 pc growth in overnight stays by international and domestic travellers between October and November, ranking fourth behind Berlin, Munich, and Hamburg.
The statement adds that to further enhance its appeal to the Indian market, the Frankfurt Tourism Board has launched targetted promotional campaigns and participated in key Indian travel trade exhibitions and the city has also collaborated with Indian travel agents to create customised travel packages, highlighting its museums, attractions, and festivals.
The city anticipates a 25-30 pc rise in Indian luxury travellers over the next five years, positioning itself as a leading vacation destination in Europe.
